Acting as a career involves more than just performing in movies. Working actors perform in live theatre productions, in commercials and on television shows. As actors start their careers, many work in multiple jobs, such as working as extra films or television. Travel is often necessary, and competition for acting position is extremely high. Acting career can also be tiring, both physically and emotionally; actors often spend hours at a time at repetitive auditions and rehearsals also stay away from their homes. There are no formal education requirements to become an actor but a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts, drama, acting and performing, may be helpful in learning technical skills. Many institutes and universities now offer acting courses in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and other cities of India. Experience is of great importance in this field, as experience leads to bigger and higher paying roles. Skills that an actor needs include creativity, speaking skills, literacy and reading skills, memorization, physical stamina, persistence, discipline, dedication, and ability to communicate with a wide variety of people. Because endless roles are available, the more an actor knows how to do, the wider the variety of auditions he or she is able to attend. For instance, role that demands speaking in foreign accents, some roles require the actor to dance and sing or both. Thus, different skills can help actor prepare to play a variety of different characters.

Advancing in the field of acting mostly has to do with actor’s reputation, actors seeking better paying; more prominent roles should place heavy emphasis on networking with others, producers and directors. Social media and websites are extremely helpful in building up reputation. Acting is not an easy career but with determination and dedication you can achieve great heights. You will be successful if you are passionate and possess the talent, skill and have the will to overcome all hurdles on the way.
