Great angle Louisa! I totally agree with you — a lot of the educational systems in place today (especially in Asian countries) are remnants of a bygone age and do not provide a lot of the essential skills needed to succeed in more indirect pursuits such as entrepreneurship.
I heard a quote that went something like this: “One of the defining characteristics of successful entrepreneurs is that they are endlessly resourceful.”
Attending hackathons doesn’t seem to be working for you, so you have to keep trying other ways to recruit your cofounder. Have you tried searching LinkedIn for suitable candidates? AngelList? It’s definitely not easy and you have to do a lot of background checks and actually work with the person before making a decision to bring him/her onboard, but I guarantee that choosing the right cofounders is the most important and also the hardest job you’ll encounter, so keep going at it!
