Story Ideas
I wanted to do a column/feature about how I disagree with the message/lyrics of the new song, “Dear Future Husband” by Meghan Trainor. Essentially the analysis of the song would be a “story peg” and hanging from it would be the expectations of people in relationships in this age. In summation, the song is basically about how her future husband must treat her like a princess and put all his needs before hers, yet she doesn’t have to do the same and he shouldn’t expect her to. I would then elaborate on how while this may have been the expectation of men a few decades ago, nowadays, with the women’s equality movement happening, most couples treat each other equally. Possible sources would be a baby boomer, a “generation X”, and a millennial to give perspective on what they perceive relationships in his or her generation.
I also wanted to do a column that was personal to me in a way, which is “thin is no longer in: the curvy girl trend”. For a long time, starting before I was born, thin was good. But as of recently, with the emergence of curvy stars like Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, and Jennifer Lopez, it has now been deemed good to have an hourglass figure. In my story, I would write about how I felt when thin was in, and how I feel now that curvy is the new trend.
Another story I’ve wanted to do for some time is a feature on how instant gratification has lead my generation through its blessings and pitfalls in all aspects. Instant gratification in its entirety has affected all parts of my life from my grades to my relationships to my athletic performance and I feel it would be interesting to other kids how they’re life as they know it differs from past generations due to this.
