STORY:
Last Tuesday, the boys’ cross country teams dominated the Knight’s Invite with the JV placing second in the Varsity race, and the frosh-soph team placing first in its race. Despite the fact that the top runners in each level were resting for the regional meet this Saturday, the Knights were still able to secure the top four spots.
“We have a pretty good JV squad here,” Senior Mike Anderson said, “They should really put some good competition on the field today.”
Senior Tommy Mathews was Runner-up to lead the Knights. Juniors Nate Silagi was fourth and Teddy Eckhardt was seventh with Max Crowninshield taking tenth.
Freshman Jack Hempleman won the race with Mike Stanford, Casey Daleiden, and Sophomore Nick Serio completing the 1–4 sweep.
“The Frosh-Soph team is an incredibly strong team,” Mrs. Chartouni, a freshman runner’s mom, said, “They’re doing a great job and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year.”
REFLECTION:
- My favorite part of this story the clincher. The quote from one of the parents left my story on a good note. After such a good day for the cross country team, Mrs. Chartouni emulated the present and future of the team with what she said.
- Something that I did not like is not whats in my story, but more of whats missing. I really left some holes in my reporting and failed to include an interview from anyone placing at the meet. Those interviews would have been able to close the gaps I have in my article.
- As aforementioned in number three, I would have interviewed some of the racers that placed in the meet and would have asked them about their performance and how they thought they stacked up in comparison to the other teams in the meet.
- Since this sports news article is on cross country, I would say the key to writing this story, would be watching the entire race in case something important happened or to see if someone was running really strong that day. I did not do that, and so my story fell flat.
