INTRODUCTION

In the 1990s, Jacob Nielsen developed ten general principles for user interface design, known as Heuristics. Heuristic refers to measuring something that cannot be easily quantified or counted. For example, you can easily quantify or calculate how long someone took to run a mile. However, you cannot easily quantify or measure how creative someone is.

First developed for desktop applications, the ten principles have been widely accepted as a benchmark for good usability design and have been adapted for website and mobile app design.

Primary Features Explored:

Spotify has a larg library for music, podcasts, and videos, that users can access free with viewing adds or subscription fee.

Criteria & Analysis

Visibility of system status: 5

All Visible icon are a great size to see and effortlessly tap on. using the navigation at the bottom with 3 primary icons Home Search and Library. that was self explanatory for what the pages are in the context of the app being music/audio focused.

User Control and Freedom: 4

users can navigate the app vary quickly with constant us and practice, increasing how good it feel to navigate the app. some may find it convoluted but there are multiple ways to do the same thing so if your trying to find something you’ll have a likely change of finding it.

Match between the system and the real world: 4

Your library holds Playlist and albums you saved or created to build a playlist you select the song or album with the menu button at the top right opening up a page where you can select where to add to your library. there also way to share library or playlist with over users but some of there way invading QR cords are glitchy.

Consistency and standards: 3

when scrolling in the list of songs there is a scroll handle witch is next to the 3 dot menu button to bring up a menu to add it to Q or other playlist but some times the scroll bar is right next to it and make me scroll and loss my place of the page.

Error prevention: 3

when pulling up the menu for a song there an option to hid the song from your account which is close to the add playlist button and it brings a conformation pop up to conform but the wording of the pop up made me click wrong and I had to spend time finding out how to un-hide a song.

Recognition rather than recall: 4

Spotify using recognition with the icon system. when using the playlist like shuffle or loop the arrow icon make visual scene to them but there are different shuffle playlist mode that icon can not explain and the app dosn’t really bother too.

Flexibility and efficiency of use: 4

The Spotify Home page often has the top being your personalized playlist or recently played to quickly go back to where you were. even if you want to discover something new quickly the home page has recommended album at the Home page.

Aesthetic and minimalist design: 5

The minimal design of spotify is great so that creatures have a uninterrupted platform to show there work like a album cover. It chose of using dark background with light text is great. using it’s branded green as it’s selected color is also visual clean. each page is not busy.

Help and documentation: 2

they hidden the help function or any personalized setting throw layer of pages. some functions I had to do some Googling to find where it is like the show hidden songs. why could have a setting icon in the navigation space to shorten the menuing to get there.
