The Indian test cricket continues to disappoint on English soil.

Another series another disappointment, it is the “same old” mode of the Indian team that we generally witness when they take on the English team at their home. The status of the current five match series is played two, lost two and the hopes of a fightback are minimal.

The current team led by captain Virat Kohli has all the talent and resources at their exploits, despite which the performance remains below par, A marginal defeat at Edgbaston followed by a humiliation at Lords has set a negative tone for the remaining matches, The only silver lining thus far in the series has been the form of captain Kohli who looks the lone warrior for his team.

With the strength of the team one may even consider a comeback but a series win on the English soil still feels like a mountain to climb.

A lot is to be blamed for this, starting with the fact that comparatively more sub-continent tours are arranged where the pitches are slow and favor spin, this leads to having an unfamiliar attitude when we visit abroad, the team is less accustomed to play on the pitches that seam and the conditions that favor swing bowling.

Another area of concern is that the acquisition of talent is based more on IPL performances, this is futile as IPL is a t20 tournament whose primary objective is entertainment, the public interest in test cricket is fading by the time with the introduction of t20, as a result of which the Ranji has fallen down in the pecking order which actually produces raw test talents.

The remaining three tests at Trent Bridge, The Rose bowl and Oval respectively are not only important for the team but also for the BCCI and the selection committee. If the results do not show a drastic change then a question need to be asked that is it a lesson learnt ?
