The Unconventional Reasons For Drinking More Water
Because sometimes we have to trick our minds into doing what’s good for our bodies
If there is one thing health fanatics can agree upon, it’s that we all need to drink lots of water. While they argue over exactly how much — half your body weight in ounces, 8 cups, a gallon, etc — the consensus is that hydration is king.
You can buy a giant water bottle, fill it up each day, and not sleep until you’ve finished every last drop. You can stash water bottles around your house and in your car so that it’s always a convenient option. You can download an app to track your water consumption. Heck, you can download an app that reminds you to drink water at whatever frequency you chose.
I’m here to tell you that it’s all unnecessary.
All you need to do is keep reading and you’ll be so inspired to drink water that you’ll never spend another day dehydrated.
Get your steps. This applies to essentially everyone — whether you have a day job in an office, work from home, or are a professional couch potato. Use a small cup/bottle for water, and the more frequently you finish it, the more times you have to walk to the kitchen to fill it up. AND the more you drink, the more you pee, the more you have to walk to the bathroom to relieve yourself. Increased water intake= increased movement. And boom, you’re skinnier! (Okay maybe not, but it can only help).
Stop eating. It’s true, sometimes you’re not hungry, you’re just thirsty. Plus, if you chug a bunch of water you will fill your belly so much that you won’t even think of eating anymore. And then you’ll be even more skinny!
Competition. Ever observe the color progression of your pee throughout a day? How it starts at bright (or dark…ew) yellow and slowly but surely clears up by the end of the day…only me? Well start tracking, and start competing with yourself. I’m telling you, it’s a little thrill to see how early in the day you can get that urine clear, and to attempt to maintain that translucency all day by drinking more water.
Clean your mouth. Word on the street (AKA some random thing I saw on Pinterest) is that drinking water after drinking sugary drinks (soda) or teeth-staining bevs (coffee and wine) can help remove some of the sugar/stain to help keep your teeth healthy and clean. And maybe help your breath a little too! (I made that up, but makes some sense).
Flexibility. My yoga instructor once said that staying properly hydrated will help you become more flexible. And that makes it fact, obviously. Our body consists of more than 50% water. So the more you add to this, the more free flowing you will be! Namaste!
It’s free. And like, totally in right now. Most restaurants, cafes, and even public venues either have a water filling station or will fill up a reusable water vessel for free. So why not take advantage? And look like you’re so eco-friendly when you chose to fill up your super trendy hydro flask at the coffee shop instead of using one of those flimsy single-use cups.
Quench the thirst. Sometimes, the thirst is too real. Or you get caught in a thirst trap. Next time you’re scrolling through the Gram and catch someone totally thirst trapping, drink some water to cool yourself down. **Disclaimer- this is not a scientifically proven method, attempt at your own risk**
You’re welcome for providing you with some fool proof motives to start drinking more water. On a real note, I think staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your body, and peeing often is like flushing all the nasties out of your body.
So, stay thirsty my friends, and douse that thirst with some good ol’ H2O. And don’t forget to go the reusable route and use your own cups/bottles.
Bottoms up!
