You might have come across and dealt with a psychopath or a few sociopaths in your life without even knowing it. However, the media’s portrayal of people who suffer from these disorders is highly distorted. But how can we tell them apart? Well, essentially psychopaths are born, and sociopaths are made. Although both biological and environmental factors play a role in the development of -ASPD- Antisocial personality disorder, it is scientifically agreed that psychopathy is chiefly a genetic or inherited condition. The brain of a psychopath has a smaller prefrontal cortex — the part that regulates behavior, impulse control, and planning — and a deformed amygdala, the seat of negative emotions like fear, guilt, and sadness while sociopathy, lie in physical or emotional abuse and environmental factors.
