The Kiss for Equality!

Imagine you are in a world where superheroes exist. If you were in a crisis, and you desperately need help from one of them, would it matter to you if your hero was gay or not?

The Kachnar hostel in MICA is home to one of the most famous graffitis of the college. It features the two most popular alpha superheroes getting intimate with one another. This graffiti has been inspired by the street art done by Rich Simmons, a London based contemporary urban pop artist. Through this street art, Rich wanted to spark a conversation about equality and challenge the notions of heroism. “ It is sometimes more heroic to simply stand up for your beliefs, stand for equality,” he says.

The intention behind this wall art is to make peace with the fact that it does not matter if you are being saved by a person whose love interest or beliefs do not comply with the social norms. It builds upon the strong message of spreading equality and how the people in this college understand the importance of being more open. They embrace the fact that having different sexual orientations won’t overshadow the greatness of being a hero.

It is very important to have prejudice-free thinking and to accept the notions and ideas of same-sex couples being an equal part of the society we reside in. The heroes selflessly help others whenever they need them, so it is imperative for us as a community to spread the message that being straight, gay, lesbian or bisexual will not transcend the heroic deeds and gestures they do for us.
