Well…I closed on my house this week, so I estimate:

$350 for paint??? That seems like a lot. The internet tells me that one gallon of paint covers approximately 350-400 square feet, and Home Depot says each gallon is $40 or so, and I’ve got to get 1.5-2 gallons of two colors (because I can’t imagine one coat covering the paint in the office in a single coat) and 2–3 gallons minimum of 1 other color, plus some ceiling paint.

Maybe also $600 for flooring. I’ve got an office with shiny parquet print linoleum. It’s not my style and I’ll be spending 40+ hours a week in there…

$500 slush for other home stuff, like a toilet brush, new trim for the office, a more interesting light fixture for the bedroom and …?!?!

$15 for a tomato plant, if the grocery store is still selling them.

Also, $50 for food and beer bribes for my dad, who is helping me paint and lending me his lawnmower.

I’m not going to total this up, because I assume a) the estimate is way off and b) it’s budgeted for out of a special category, aside from the food, and c) it’s a bit depressing to see those numbers, even if they’re exactly what I expected.
