Is the Fermi Paradox really a paradox?

I always thought why are we assuming life on other planets will be the same as on earth. As in searching for water, oxygen and carbon.

Some planet might have other kind of life form rather than carbon based life form which would require different star-planet scenarios than what we currently have on earth and what we are looking for.
