These are very valid points, and I applaud your authenticity.

I’ve always viewed Medium as seperate from Facebook and Twitter. On those platforms, I don’t like my own posts. On Medium, I do recommend my posts and I have a dedicated strategy for sharing to Twitter. I slowed my sharing to Facebook because I didn’t want to inundate family and friends with my writing, but I do still occasionally share to Facebook.

Maybe all of that is due to working in marketing and I’ve just been wired that way. I don’t think there is necessarily a “wrong” way to do it. I completely understand where you’re coming from. I also think how I’ve done things has worked pretty well.

For what it’s worth, I started on Medium in December 2015 but started writing regularly in February 2016. I’m now over 400 followers. More than that, my wife and I started a publication (Cooking With Sarah) in April 2016. We’re now over 800 followers. Both of us submitting our personal work to publications has certainly had an effect, but the social sharing and recommending does play a part.
