Happiness Is Victory

You will never have a greater or lesser dominion than that over yourself … the height of a man’s success is gauged by his self-mastery; the depth of his failure by his self-abandonment…And this law is the expression of eternal justice. He who cannot establish dominion over himself will have no dominion over others.

― Leonardo da Vinci

BROADLY, ALL THE PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TOPICS BOIL DOWN TO SELF MASTERY(DISCIPLINE).

High performance people don’t struggle with self discipline or else they wouldn’t be high performance in the first place. They are high performance because they are disciplined. They aren’t sitting around thinking about their emotions because they’ve graduated past that stage. They are all about “doing”.

The reason we eat up “personal growth” topics, which I am not saying aren’t without merit, is the same reason most of us are average.

The majority of people lack self control over their body, mind and emotions. Because of this, they are desperate for someone to tell them “how” to solve that problem so that they can get out of “average — land”.

Discipline is doing what you need to do when you need to do it; and not doing the things that conflict with what you need, in order to accomplish your goals. Control over thoughts, mind, emotions and body. It’s really that simple. Thousands of people pop up and try to give the solution, which always boils down to self-control. No one does it perfectly but high performance people aren’t struggling with it anymore. We can have everything we want if we can control ourselves… it’s just that simple.

WE DON’T NEED MOTIVATION. WE KNOW WHAT WE WANT.

WE DON’T NEED MORE TALENT. TALENT IS THE EXCUSE OF FOOLS.

MOST OF US JUST NEED SELF DISCIPLINE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

In order to eliminate self- sabotage we need the discipline to understand that happiness is not pleasure, happiness is victory.

If you are struggling with self- discipline you simply have conflicting beliefs around the thing you are trying to stop or start. You are trying to meet a psychological need by doing or not doing what you want. Simply work through how you can meet that need in another way and consider what it will cost you immediately by not doing what you need to do. This will have broken the pattern and you’ll be on your way to victory.
