I heard the other day that there are people who live at different positivity ratios — Positive Thoughts : Negative Thoughts. If you are 1:1 your brain is producing one positive thought to every one negative thought. And as you increase positive to negative ratio, 2:1, 3:1, 5:1, 79:1 you can imagine how that individual’s quality of mind and life goes up along with it. So why are we not addressing this problem(solution) head on? Do we not want to find the cure to unhappiness?! Well I do.
I don’t think it would come to shock anyone that a 1:1 ratio is less than desirable. But I’m going to be very blunt with you, the possibility of that ratio even existing blew my mind to bits. I was shocked that even a moderate percentage of people can think that a 1:1 ratio is even feasible! I truly cannot wrap my head around even a 3:1 ratio! So I started asking around, and most of the people I asked(College students) said they were probably living at a 2:1 or 3:1. This opened my eyes to seeing how this metric can be a real issue when presented on a large scale. If we can get everyones ratio up to say 10:1 just imagine how pleasant the world would be… just imagine.
If the majority of people are running anywhere from a 1:1 to a 1:3, and it is very easy to fluctuate from day to day, so you have to get those numbers up, so that even a “bad” day is the best day ever. I’m here to spread the awareness of how easy, and beneficial that is.
A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results — Wade Boggs
So we have all of these ratios, but we have a fat percentage of people who are living at a 1:1 ratio which is only one positive thought(per neg) away from becoming the average 2:1! So in putting this in simple terms, by adding one more positive thought to every negative one, a human is already a HUGE step in the right direction. It is literally as easy as giving a soft smile, or a slight head nod when you make eye contact to a stranger. Not only is that a positive thought for you, it is automatically a positive thought for the receiving party as well!! Win Win you winners. Now on an individual level this strategy just flat out works, it will inherently make your life better, along with those around you. Don’t believe me? Just give it a try — you actually have nothing to lose — and everything to gain! Now imagine if this strategy was adopted by EVERYONE, the world would be a better place in a single day, just from smiles and head nods. Everyone’s ratios would go through the roof…. That is unless you like to stare at the ground all day, or even worse… your phone🙄 And if you are that person I would tell you that the world is pretty cool and you should take a look around once in a while, you might find something you like 😉
So as you can imagine there are many levels of this ratio, and I firmly believe that the more positive thoughts you have to a single negative thought, the better your life will be. At times the world may seem all physical, like you have no control over what goes on around you. But if you take advantage of the most powerful tool on the planet, aka YOUR BRAIN, you can turn almost any situation into a positive thought.
In fact — Comment a situation where it is hard to find the positive light and I will tell you how I would view it in order to lift that distracting haze from your brain. Obviously in most situations its easier said than done, but it is all about conditioning your brain to work 4 U.
Lets get back to this simple and intriguing ratio that can be the key to unlocking pure and glowing happiness. So if you are at a 2:1 ratio you are said to have an average mindset, but when has anyone ever told you to be average? So try and move up one more notch to a 3:1 ratio. It is said if you get to this 3:1 milestone you have solid mental health — Great! That is as easy as enjoying a mural on the side of a building, appreciating the food you eat, immersing yourself in things you enjoy, or just day dreaming. Literally DAY DREAMING. I will challenge each and every person who reads this to do things you enjoy, feed your passions, and do your best to have FUN. I love to watch people have FUN, it makes me happy to see others having a good time. FUN is contagious, and positive thoughts are too! So start the chain reaction and make a difference.
And if you think you are too good for FUN, you probably also think you are too good for sunscreen. Can you imagine thinking you are stronger than the freaking SUN… Jezz ☀️ burn.
Now as I am writing about this I don’t want to be ignorant to everyone else’s life struggles, and ignore that a lot of what happens in life is uncontrollable. This is where your brain comes in. As time moves forward, we as individuals can only control two things — our thoughts and our actions — Why not position yourself to end up with the highest positivity ratio, and the highest probability for a good day? And a good life?
The past is history, and tomorrow is a mystery… and the funny thing about this phrase, is that mysteries usually go how you THINK they are going to go — So I am going to let you figure this one out on your own.
Hint: The CAPITALIZED word
Honestly I am just going to hammer this into the ground. I can’t wrap my head around the concept of thinking negatively. I am bad at thinking negatively, who does it help? What purpose does it serve? Why not eradicate it from the planet all together?! Ok, so the only rebuttal I have to this is when it comes to business; Often times it is useful to poke holes in your ideas, and think of how your plan is bad. That scenario is the closest I come to thinking negatively, and it no doubt serves a purpose.
Please let me feed you my logic 🥄
If those with the highest ratios have the highest quality of mental health, and therefore quality of life, why isn’t everyone working hard to improve this simple metric? Like I said, I have been polling my friends, and I guess the honest truth is that it isn’t as simple as I would like it to be. You can say your are going to change your mindset all you want, but if you don’t have the right mental principals set permanently in your mind, you will end up second guessing yourself or worse feeling bad for yourself and giving up(I assume). If you were to ask me, I would tell you that the most powerful tool on the planet is your brain. Use it to create repeatable positive thought processes, preferably in a way that will also positively impact others. Just push negative thoughts out of your mind and surround yourself with people and situations that help you get that ratio up. You will thank yourself for doing this. People may not understand why you end up “not caring” about something, or why you move on so quickly, but in the end it is all about working toward this better version of yourself. This better person is just chillin in your head waiting to be tapped into and utilized.
I will be frank, when I heard that this ratio existed I’m like, holy batman I am running at a 100:1 (guesstimation but close)— I have always been a positive person who has lead a life of not taking anything at face value. To tell you the truth I really can’t remember the last time I had a bad day. I know that somewhere along the line the phrase “Everything little thing is going to be alright” got branded in my mind, and my brain decided to try and figure out how how to get to the “alright” part as fast as possible. I find this to be a great strategy, and I really do believe that I am not some special person, but that I am just able to look at things through the correct lens. I know that everyone has this capability. I have no doubts that we as a society have got this in the bag.

I am just going to rattle some stuff off of how I get to my 100:1 ratio. Smile, get lots of sleep, sleep heavy(dream and remember your dreams), eat the best food possible, workout regularly, write when you feel like it, play music loud in the car(make sure everyone around you knows you are having more fun than them), just listen to music, look at old pictures(if its of an X make sure you remember what you learned), say hello to everyone you think will say hello back(almost everyone), go fishing, play sports, go running, watch a sunrise or a sunset, sit with a fan in front of your face, appreciate architecture, appreciate the magnitude of the human ability(this is a big one; can be applied to every product, idea, and so on), enjoy the raw power of nature(I’ve seen some really great stuff out of Texas durning this storm — hope everyone is doing alright), watch planet earth, talk to family, look at new fashion, cool shoes, dream big, look at dogs, stretch, challenge yourself, play brain games, learn new skills, think of how you would improve any and everything, stay off of social media that sucks the soul out of you(don’t want to point fingers), look at more dogs, respond to people’s snapchat stories(hope y’all don’t think that is weird), crackin knuckles(my 5th grade teacher said it was ok, don’t tell me differently), have fun with friends, make new friends, enjoy time off, appreciate Mondays(this is huge), learn from your own mistakes, learn from others mistakes, being weird, being yourself, and appreciate waking up every single morning.
And why’d he make you so special why did he bless you? Think about it — I woke up this mornin’ — I woke up this mornin’ — gotta smile when I say that shit, I woke up this mornin’ — Chance The Rapper
