The Importance of Communication.

In any culture, society, or relationship, there is a need for communication. It is the base that all other things revolve around. Without language, we would still reside in the stone age. Things like science, and love would still be mostly unknown to us without it. Even in my own relationship, I have found that the center of everything is the ability to communicate effectively with my partner. The same rules apply for our managers, Governors, Congress men, Presidents and other world leaders. When we fail to communicate our feelings, desires and needs, things quickly breakdown in to an unintelligible chaos, which often leads to breakups, loss of employment, or even war.

If there is one man that understood that more than even I do, it would be a man by the name of Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof otherwise known as L.L Zamenhof, the Polish-Jewish medical doctor who was the creator of the conlang ( constructed language.) of Esperanto. To this day, Esperanto is the most successful conlang in the world. Zamenhof grew up fascinated with the idea of a world without war. He believed such things could be achieved with the international auxiliary language which he first developed in 1873 while he was still in school.

For Zamenhof, Esperanto was more than a communication tool, it was a way to promote the peaceful coexistence of different people and cultures. In studying his work I believe that even in today's world of technology and global communication, that his work is still very important. Maybe even more so due to the explosion of the global population over the passed one hundred and forty four years. Zamenhof's dreams were never realized and our world is still plagued with war, on the brink of a third world catastrophe. With a following of more than two million people all over the world Esperanto is still running strong, but, It is still little known to most of the world and needs to be brought further in to the light for all to see. Communication and understanding, to push past that linguistic barrier that cuts off our minds from the rest of the world, is what I believe we all need to bring us all together.
