Why I Didn’t Vote Yesterday
Just a few reasons why I withheld my vote.

For those of you living under a rock, yesterday was the midterm elections here in the states. This is when we get to choose the next jackass to be the people’s “voice” in government. The morning of November 4th an older gentleman kindly asked me if I planned on voting. At which I calmly replied, “No I am not.” The look on this man face was as if I took the constitution, wiped my ass, and bopped him on the nose with it. He then proceeded to lecture me on the importance of voting. “It is how our voices are heard,” he proclaimed to me. The man was then nice enough to refer to me as an “unintelligent punk kid that can’t complain about taxes since I haven’t voted.” Normally I would ignore these situations, but after the days preceding the vote, sifting through the garbage posted by whomever I’m friends with on Facebook regarding the politician they follow blindly, I had a great deal to get off my chest.
Now let me be clear, I do not identify myself with any specific political party, nor would I refer to myself as an expert on this matter. To quote a man I very much respect… Josh Brown @reformedbroker
I read too much to be a right winger and I work too hard to be a liberal, I despise all of them equally.
What I am however, is a concerned citizen, and (for the most part) an informed millennial. I would vote libtertarian or green party if it wasn’t essentially throwing my vote away. Now back to what I was saying..
Just because I have not voted, does not mean I have no right to be angry about how much I’m taxed. Quite honestly, it doesn’t matter who is at the helm of our country..taxes won’t change. We are taxed on everything imaginable.
For example, if you as a citizen planned on building a home you will be taxed for the lot, the house, the plumbing..etc. Think about that, you are getting taxed to take a shit in your toilet! Now isn’t that some bull..
My favorite taxes are Federal, I definitely love them above all. To the best of my knowledge federal taxes need only be paid if you reside on federal land. Now I don’t know about any of you but I don’t live on a military base. You are not required by law to pay federal taxes.
A person that I am close with, for a few years fought the system and didn’t pay these taxes. Now in no way was he a free loader or anything like that. In his late 20's he started his own service company and still owns and operates it today. He was tired of giving up (this is a ballpark number) 30% of his income to taxes. The IRS had even agreed with him that their was no law for him to pay! Now after a few years of not paying these taxes the IRS came knocking threatening to take everything away, and that was after a long legal battle.
My point in all of this is that voting for a politician won’t fix our problems. One man can’t stand up and say “no.” But an entire country can. On December 16th, 1773 American colonists revolted over a tax on tea! Freaking tea! I’m sure they would be dumbfounded as to why we are kindly taking 30% tax right in the ass.
This is a reason why I didn’t vote. No matter who you vote for they won’t make a change. Politicians will fire off every buzz word to make you want to elect them, but in the end whatever promises they made to the American people were nothing but lies. Politicians in my own state have made vows that look great to hear. Statements such as “I will keep the garbage out of PA!” When a lot of people know for a fact..he is the one letting other states dump their waste on his land. Voting is nothing more than picking the lesser of two evils. As South Park hilariously put it..it’s always between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich
