Again, I’m not sure how more simple to make this, the entire point of the article is to simply be prepared.
As I wrote in the article, everyone’s experience is unique depending on many variables; for example, your cycling circumstances, normal speed, distance, environment/weather, terrain, infrastructure, your riding style…
Huh. So no pump? no tools? no lights? no bell? no brake pads? no add-ons? no bike shop maintenance? no cleaners or lubes? no cycling gear? no bike clothes? Interesting.

I disagree. You still work on an e-bike, you still sweat, so you will still build up a stink. I mentioned e-bikes and also “going easy” in the article, and while it helps, it doesn’t solve.
It was more to explain that cycling is not just a one-time expense. I’ve met too many people who buy a bike and think they are good to go. Judging from your user name, you are on an e-bike, which are not cheap and still require maintenance and parts. I’m also betting this wasn’t your first bike. The point was, cycling costs can add up, so just budget for it the best you can and be prepared.
I looked at the Birdy. Great bike! But they are pretty expensive. The Tern offers the Verge P10 at $1400 and their next level is over $2K. I think the Birdys start over $2K? But yeah, Birdys look briliant!
Thanks! NYC isn’t all that hilly, but it does have a few inclines here and there like the bridges and some mild but long inclines in Brooklyn. For NYC two speeds is enough for me. I would think if you need more gearings, I’d go all the way to the 6 speed since once you make the bump in weight to the 3 speed, it’s just a tad more for twice as much.
I think I disagree with this.
Use the term Alt-Right and constantly expose their racism. Just like with the KKK, Nazis, etc. That way when someone else hears the term Alt-Right they know exactly who they are dealing with… If someone is part of a Nazi group, you call them Nazis. We just need to work on making the term…
At the time I was using my backpack so couldn’t speak to the bags yet… but, after some exhaustive searching, I ended up with the Brompton roll top — https://medium.com/@aarontsuru/a-tiny-review-of-a-medium-sized-bag-for-a-small-folding-bike-the-brompton-roll-top-shoulder-bag-d17ec7ab6421#.1ukwdaqoc
