Hans Zimmer is one of the most prominent composers of the 21st century. He has been composing for over fifty years, scoring some of the most famous movies in recent history including The Lion King, Gladiator, The Dark Knight, and Inception. Surely, he has the skill to create highly complex music. Why then are his themes so simple?

Look at the chords from Hans Zimmer’s most famous song, Time from Inception (which happens to be my favorite song in the world). It’s just four chords, Am-Em-G-D, and then these are repeated, but with a C instead of the Em.

“Whiteboard coding” is an interview practice most software developers will be familiar with. Its original form involved the interviewer posing a question like “Write an algorithm that prints the duplicate characters in a string,” and the candidate must write code on a whiteboard for the interviewers to examine while explaining her thought process aloud.
