Thank you for engaging Sarah! Your perspective of self-esteem holds a different meaning than what I was trying to convey, my point wasn’t about confidence, it was more more about having a god complex (not exactly to that extreme, but definitely a psychological attribute). That is why I added the questions you can ask yourself in that section, it isn’t really related to the topic of confidence or cockiness, but more towards a deep rooted perspective of life.
I totally agree that independence is vital. You shouldn’t change who you are. But at the end of the day, you must understand that a relationship consists of two people and life will be different, you have to show some element flexibility. Like you said, you have to find a balance. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you’re changing a bunch of aspects of who you are. Conversely, don’t make yourself impossible to compromise with.
