I think you’re right, and I think a lot of people can relate, black or white. Like yourself, I don’t appreciate when someone assumes that I don’t care about a particular subject. That mindset is completely backwards and counter-productive, especially in this situation.

In this case, I do care. I care quite a bit. Some nights, I can’t sleep because I get so worked up about it. I pray everyday for change of heart throughout the entire country. But, there is a time and place for everything, and frankly, my job and the work I do at my job has nothing to do with the cultural issues that persist outside of my office. It’s the one place where people can just be people. I used to dread going to work, and now I use it as an escape from everything terrible going on. Does that make me a coward? No. I’m just some guy minding his own business. Outside of work, it’s a completely different story.
