AN ALL-POWERFUL GOD CAN NOT WORSHIP HIMSELF?

If there are some statements that have been misused and misunderstood when it comes to the topic of worship, then this is one of them: “GOD CAN DO EVERYTHING EXCEPT TO WORSHIP HIMSELF.” Where has that been recorded in the Bible? It is absolutely not true and unscriptural!

How can an omnipotent God lose a part of his power when it comes to worship? It is a privilege for us to come before Him to offer Him praise.

It is true we worship God for who He is. But I don’t believe our God suffers from inferiority complex and feels insecure about Himself so much that He needs “mere men” to make Him feel worthy or good.

We must know and understand that, before man was made, God existed and was God all by Himself. In fact the work of the angels have been to worship God day and night since creation. When man was created, nothing changed about God and He doesn’t need our worship to live or breathe like we humans do air.

The problem is that, this particular statement aforementioned has resulted in many people becoming proud and feeling big about themselves even in the presence of God. Forgetting that God clearly said; “ Let no flesh glory in my presence…” which I understand to mean that, no one has a right to boast about doing or being anything in His presence. By grace have we been saved, not by works. So that no one can boast.

Read the following text carefully:

“Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying, Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?(Jeremiah 32:26–27, KJV)

Does ‘any thing’ mentioned here exclude worship? I do not thing so. God can worship Himself if He chooses to, or He can cause any thing He has created to worship Him if we humans decide not to.

“And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.” (Luke 19:37–40, KJV)

God doesn’t need us as much as we need Him. So we must see our worship and praise as avenues to fellowship with Him and not as a means to impress God. He is already All-sufficient, Sovereign and Self-existent. He only gives man an opportunity to come and enjoy His presence.

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:11, KJV)

God made all things (including man) for His pleasure. Note the phrase carefully: “for His pleasure.” That means we bring God pleasure any time He sees us (the works of His hands). And bringing Him pleasure doesn’t add anything to what He already is or has. He enjoys to see His handiwork give Him praise.

Therefore see your worship or praise to God as a way to bring Him pleasure rather than something He can not live without!

Remember that before man ever existed God was God all by Himself!
