She didn’t bathe in blood either

I know what you’re probably thinking, but you’re wrong. Let me tell you why.

Countess Erzsebet Bathory (pronounced Elizabeth in English) like so many other women of her time, was subject to unfounded accusation, suspicion, and myth.

She was born into the prestigious noble family of Bathory in late 17th century Transylvania. Even as a child, she was something special. Stubborn and strong-headed with a wit to match.

Having received a full Renaissance education, she spoke and wrote in 4 languages and became extensively educated in logic and economics.

More than that, she also manned her own finances and made her own political decisions without interference from her husband in a time when that was unheard of.

The Countess also just so happened to be the wealthiest person in the whole of Hungary, on top of having blood relations with every Prince and noble all across Transylvania. Through her many relatives, she had extensive armies who were at her beck and call.

Elizabeth, an exceptional and bright young woman, held these things over everyone’s head, including the Hungarian King. A man who was going to be indebted to her and her family for the rest of his life.
