I believe it’s perfectly normal to wonder “am I making the right decision for the right reasons” anytime we do something significant in our lives. Physically changing one’s gender is about as significant as it gets.

Changing our body to match our mind is also a scary thing! Our world is SO gender binary. How can I ever be totally “sure” that I was right? Even as we are drawn deeply in our heart to the other gender, we are in a sense acknowledging that there are two genders and we want to be “the other one.”

We ask: Is it that I “want to be” or is it “I am”? And … how much does it matter?

Big questions.

My point is this: Very, very few people who fully transition choose to go back. If your gender identity is that strongly drawn to the other side of the spectrum from your physical container, what you’d experience is probably similar to that of what a cis-gender occasionally thinks about: “I wonder what it would be like to be the other gender?”

The difference being — you’ll be thinking: “Been there. Done that. Glad I’m here.”
