It’s that time of year again. Summer Break, woo hoo… This time the rules are a little different because it seems like we’ve already been on “vacation” for the last 9 weeks. That is without pools, the heat, bbqs, and the like.

In our house, we followed a schedule to keep us on track to finish school work each day, so while the end of the year lacked full closure, the summer will provide a break from intensity of school work.

Now, that’s not to say that school will completely go out the window. No, no, no…

As we wrap up the end of the school year, I feel as if there is lack of closure. My kids didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to their teachers.

Many activities that took place to close out the year like the pancake breakfast, fun day, clap outs and picnics were lost in the shuffle.

Most of the time, I’m pretty go with the flow, see the glass half full type of girl. …

When it comes to homework and projects, I usually let my kids take the reign on their work. With distance learning during the pandemic, I’ve been a little more hands on but they are still mostly on their own.

My daughter finished a career project the other day and asked me to look it over. The first thing I asked her is if I could really proofread it or if she wanted me to glance over it.

The first go through, I wasn’t allowed to voice my opinion then once she was completely done, I got the…

  • Wake up. Usually with the dog anywhere between 4:30–5:30am.
  • Try to fall back asleep. If unsuccessful, journal and meditate.
  • Get the kids breakfast.
  • Take shower. Prepare for day.
  • 9am — start school with the kids. We follow the same schedule each weekday. A daily walk and my yoga time is included and we usually go until about 2:30/3pm.
  • Most days after school we play outside, turn on electronics, read all the books or play games.
  • Eat dinner, mess around for a bit then get ready for bed.
  • All to wake up and do it again the next…

Some days it feels like the 4728482nd day of March but most of the time I can’t believe how fast we are moving through this Stay At Home order.

It seems that Fridays come sooner and sooner each week. The kids finish up another week of school in awe.

When we reflect back on the past 8 weeks, we ask ourselves “what are we doing to make the time pass so quickly?”

It comes down to one recurring theme: FUN!

We aren’t focused on activities being canceled or our favorite places being closed. …

Each Friday, we celebrate our week with pizza and a movie. It allows us a family to come and wrap up the work we’ve done together. We are able to relax and enjoy one another’s company.

Now more than ever, do we need this release. During this period of online distance learning, my kids stick to a schedule Monday through Friday to stay caught up with their lessons.

So come Friday evening, we are all ready to kick back and bond as one unit through the magic of film.

There is something about being home with my…

Together, we gathered all the ingredients. Pulled out the mixing bowls and found the recipe. As we read over the instructions, it was clear the directions were very vague.

My daughter came to me the other day in her venture to bake more while we are on lockdown with the idea to make a peach cobbler.

My mind instantly flashed back to my grandmother’s house and the decadent peach flip she would make.

It’s been years since I’ve had it and emailed her immediately for the recipe. …

And there is no end in sight. Except for the end of the school year. I see why teachers need a three month break in the summer. Luckily, I’m not creating any of the lesson plans my kids are doing, but the break is a necessity.

Teachers sure do work hard, but the one thing they get to do is recharge their batteries. Whether it is at the end of the day, spending time with their family or with a 12 week summer break, along with Winter and Spring break interspersed.

Don’t get me wrong, they totally…

Right now, we are living in a world where our physical interaction with people is limited, so being on social media is the answer to connection, right?

FALSE

At the moment, I’m inundated with messages from my kids’ teachers all day long, emails from the school district and texts from friends and family. My kids are getting on google hangouts with their classmates and our family has even done zoom meetings. I am doing my best to stay afoot of what is going on without reading too many articles from our local news station.

If at this…

Everywhere I look and read, all articles point to how this is an unprecedented time in our world. In recent history, most of the country hasn’t shut down due to a virus. We are in uncharted territory and everyone is doing their best to figure out next steps.

People at home are navigating through their day in isolation or learning how to be a teacher to their kids. Most of us are used to being on the goal, having a full calendar and this virus is forcing us to slow down.

Like most parents, I’m ready to…
