An Open Letter to Donald Trump

Mr. Trump,

Many months ago, I laughed at your decision to run for president. You were nothing more than a joke to me. Today, with elections around the corner, I fear for my life and I fear for my family’s future because you stand for nothing but hate.

I really hope you don’t take away my right to marry someone I love. Your extreme dislike towards the LGBTQ+ community is disgusting. You have no room to judge us for who we love because our love is just as valid as your’s. How dare you say we ruin the sanctity of marriage when you have continuously cheated on your wives. You've been married three times, Mr. Trump, and you think there’s something wrong with us? And please stop calling us rapists and pedophiles when you've openly condoned sexual assault. You’re the creeper, Mr. Trump.

I’m not a religious person, but I pray everyday you don’t deport my family. Most of my extended family and my mother are Mexican immigrants who came to this country for a better life. Like many immigrants, my grandfather worked odd jobs and my grandmother worked as a maid, but you yell they’re stealing all the jobs. I highly doubt that, Mr. Trump. My mother legally obtained her green card, but you’d still like to see her deported. My brother and I are citizens of this country, but because our mother isn’t, you want us gone, too. My family is filled with nothing but hard workers. But you’re not willing to see that because of the color of their skin. Your own wife is an immigrant, but she’s white. So, it’s okay, right?

Mr. Trump, you claim to have an enormous amount of respect for women, but I’ve heard you say nothing but degrading things about us. As a feminist, victim of sexual assault, and a woman, everything you say deeply disturbs me. How can you ever think it’s okay to grab a woman in her genitals without her consent? What you described is sexual assault, not “locker room banter.” You think women are only good for one thing: their bodies. I sure hope I can make it out in the real world with my small tits. It’s amazing I was even able to write this! You need a reality check, Mr. Trump, because you clearly do not respect women. Especially because you called your own daughter a “piece of ass.” Disgusting.

I can’t believe I ever laughed at your idiocy. I no longer laugh when I see your face on TV, I only cringe. The fear inside me grows everyday and will not subside until I know I’m safe from you. People will defend your harsh words claiming that you didn’t mean them; words have a lot of meaning, Mr. Trump. People say what they mean and mean what they say, and I mean this, Mr. Trump: you are pure evil, and you scare the hell out of me.

Sincerely,

Abbie Martinez
