Lionel Shriver Is Tired of Hearing About Cultural Appropriation

. The bitter irony of you claiming that she wishes to silence a conversation in which she has grown weary of when, in reality, it is she that has her right of tongue and pen stripped away for her. Cultural appropriations is a childish concept; one that tell us, if we dare break the sacred rules of political correctness to criticize a beloved leftist institution, as well-founded as our criticisms may be, we will be condemned of being called a racist, sexist, homophobic, amoral bigot. This perverted, indeed poisonous concept has now metastasized to the world of literature: the very same art form whose limits were once nonexistence. And now, in order to pander the emotional cowardly and the intellectually inept — those whose biggest fear in life remains someone having opinions that differ from their own — we must censor ourselves, all in the name of social justice (a title that is as misleading as it is dripping with irony).

. A concept that was supposed to make us more sensitive to one another, unfortunately, has only lead to oversensitivity, bigotry and one to beleive they have the right to silence someone else’s opinion simply because it does not fit into their own childish view of morality.
