There is no doubt that Denis Villeneuve is one of the best director’s working in Hollywood these days.

Dune part 1 and 2 are both amazing cinematic achievements , and both are arguably masterpieces.

But did you know that there was another movie directed by Villeneuve that was also beautifully shot and acted , heart wrenching yet serene.

I’m of course talking about “Prisoners” a crime/thriller released back in 2013.

I’m not joking when I say this , Prisoners has one the best acted scenes in any movie ever period.

The strongest aspect of Prisoners is definitely it’s performances with an ensemble of great actors , including Jake Gyllenhaal , Hugh Jackman and Paul Dano.

The story takes place in a small town in Pennsylvania , where two girls get abducted on thanksgiving day. The film follows the investigation of the case of these abductions from both the perspective of the families and the Police.

The cinematography of the film is on par with Dune and Dune part 2’s cinematography. Some scenes in the film are so amazingly shot even though at first they might seem simple, but they’re actually very unique.

The atmosphere in the film remains damp and subtle throughout the film and it really impacts the tone of the film in a way that makes it apparent that this is a dark tale.

What makes this movie so impactful and memorable in my mind is definitely the acting by the two main leads.

Jake Gyllenhaal has always been robed of not getting enough spotlight for his amazing performances , and I consider this as another one of his best ones in my opinion, that never got enough praise.

Similarly, Hugh Jackman gives one of his career best performances as one of the father’s whose daughter got abducted.

Jackman truly captures the pain of a father who loves his daughter and would do anything to find her.

However, there is another performance that I am really fond of after watching this movie again and that is the one given by Paul Dano.

He plays a suspect for these abductions (without getting into any spoilers) with an IQ level of 10 year old. His acting is really nuanced and believable in the interrogation scenes. His performance is creepy and chilling at the same time.

The fact that this movie was almost going to be cancelled is really hard to believe , since the premise is so gripping and intriguing.

If you have watched the movie do mention what you liked about it down below , I would love read your opinions.

But if you haven’t yet watched this film go ahead and do so , you can easily find it on both HBO MAX and Netflix.

Thanks For reading my very first blog , see you next week.
