Andy Kelly (2015, Feb 19) Is virtual reality really the future of Video Games

This article shows the harsh critical reviews of Kelly on VR gaming. The author himself is a reporter that works for an organization known as VICE. He mostly covers gaming in general and I believe he has no bias towards VR. The reason I believe this is because he is a very critical reviewer of VR gaming and has no reason to take a stance. There are no faults in this article because the author is merely reviewing VR headsets and their faults. The authors purpose is to try to persuade the audience that VR is not the future of games just yet, and his audience is the gamers. The strength of this article is that the author provides some constructive criticism that some companies can use to improve VR gaming. The article itself pinpoints the idea that VR headsets are uncomfortable to the average person when they wear it for long periods of time. Another criticism made in the article is that even though VR headsets are immersive, they are not immersive enough because of the limitations of the headsets themselves, such as creating a black borderline that distracts the player. I can use this article to provide reasons to the reader that VR gaming still has a long way to go. The faults in the VR headset must be fixed before VR becomes the next big thing.

Ben Kuchera (2017, May 3) PlayStation VR gets a price drop of sorts from Amazon and GameStop

The authors audience is the gamers that already own a play station and the purpose is to persuade the audience that they should consider buying the VR headset because it is cheaper. The author has no reason to be biased because he is only stating a fact, and that fact is the current price of PS VR. The article states that the current price for the PS VR is at $399.99. I can use this article in my article to rebut the argument that VR headsets are too expensive.

This article gives out the authors personal opinion on the game Resident Evil 7 with the new option of VR. The authors purpose is to simply give her opinion and the audience is the general gamer public. The article has no reason to be biased because she is not trying to sell anything or advertise anything. The author gives out a couple of reasons why she really likes RE7 with VR. One of these reasons is that the jumpscares in the game really got to her personally, and she seems to love it. I can use this article to prove the point in my essay that VR can make any game more popular, and thereby also proving that VR can be the future of games.

Conception Miguel (2016 October 12) Here They Lie Review

This article gives a very detailed review on the game Here They Lie. The author is a writer for the website gamespot.com. The authors purpose is to inform the audience, PS gamers, about his opinion on the game Here They lie. The article has no reason to be biased because the author is stating his experiences while playing the game, and is writing about how the experiences shaped his opinion. The article gives out a couple of the authors detailed reviews of the game such as the level designs and camera tricks. At the end of the article, the author clearly states that he enjoyed the game. I can use this article to rebut the idea that just because some people dislike a game, it doesn’t mean that the game itself is unsuccessful. There will always be people that like a game no matter how many people dislike it.

Kayla Mathews(2016, June 8) Virtual Reality still has 5 big problems

This article gives out the 5 major problems that VR currently has. The author is a writer who writes for certain websites such as TechExplained.com and makeuseof.com .The authors purpose is to inform the audience, gamers, that VR must have these problems fixed in order for it to become the future of gaming. The article has no biases whatsoever because the author is only trying to state some of the major problems that VR has. One of the problems that the article states is the high price that current VR headsets have. The hololens is currently priced at $3,000, which is too much for the average person. I can use this information to put in a counterargument against my stance on my essay.

This article gives out information about the authors personal opinion on the worst games that VR has to offer. The authors purpose is to simply give his opinion on these games and the audience is the general gamer public. The article has no reason to be biased because the author is not trying to sell or advertise anything. The author gives out a couple of games he thinks are just plain terrible. One of these games is Here They Lie, he is merciless when he describes the faults of this game. Microsoft (2017) A new way to see the world

This article gives a proper introduction to the reader about the potential and inner workings of the Hololens. The author is a representative of Microsoft, though the authors name is not specifically written down in the article. There seems to be a little bias in this article because it is clear to the reader that Microsoft is trying to market their product to the consumer (gamers), this is the authors purpose and audience. The article starts by giving out the reasons why the Hololens is a successful VR headset, one of these reasons is that the headset is designed to be more comfortable and durable. It also gives the exact inner workings of the Hololens such as multiple sensors, advance optics and holographic processing unit. I will use this article to rebut the argument that VR headsets are really uncomfortable.

Rouse, Margaret (2016) Virtual reality

This article gives a formal definition of the virtual reality and gives out an explanation on how VR is used. The author is a manager that manages websites such as whatIs.com and TechTarget’s IT encyclopedia. The authors purpose is simply to introduce VR to the general public. The article has no reason to be bias because the author rarely seems to write articles about VR, most of her articles are based on other types of technology. The article talks about the formal definition of VR, which is “Virtual reality is an artificial environment that is created with software and presented to the user in such a way that the user suspends belief and accepts it as a real environment.”. I can use this definition in my essay to rebut the argument that people consider some technology to be VR when it is in fact not.

The article has proper citations that support the authors claims, which makes them believable. The article states information such as the amount of hololens sold in the year 2016, which are in the thousands. Although the article does not state the exact number of sales of the hololens, this is still believable because the article does not state an exaggerated number of sales. I can use the information in this article to prove in my essay that the hololens is in fact doing well with the sales.
