Of no importance

You, my lover, are of no importance.

A mote, an atom, whirling in the vortex of my mind.

Nay, not a mote, not even an atom,

but the meaningless empty spaces

that cover the chasms within atoms.

You, my lover, are of no importance.

The clearing of my throat between songs.

The empty two second gaze that I cast into the void while I write my poem.

The random dab of orange in the blue sky that I paint.

You are but the twirling of my moustache when nobody is looking.

You, my lover, are of no importance.

You, my lover are emptiness and silence.

A blank paper, the day’s beginning.

A lump of clay that I mould to my purpose.

The princess imprisoned in the undersea palace

cast into life and death at the whim of my demonic wand.

An empty goblet that I fill with my passion, lust and desire

drink and then cast away.

You, my lover are of no importance.

No value, no purpose, no identity.

The clearing of my throat between songs.

Without which my song would not be human.

The empty two second gaze that I cast into the void while I write my poem.

Without which the next words would never appear.

The random dab of orange in the blue sky that I paint.

Without which the painting would be lost.

You are but the twirling of my moustache when nobody is looking.

Without which I wouldn’t know my own face.

You, my lover, are of no importance.

A mote, an atom, whirling in the vortex of my mind.

Nay, not a mote, not even an atom,

but the meaningless empty spaces

that cover the chasms within atoms

without which there would be no universe.
