The VPN, or virtual private network, dates back to 1996 when Microsoft employee, Singh-Pall, created a method and tool to allow users a way to work securely through a privatized network from the comfort of their own home. Though VPNs were initially created for employees to access business networks, as more and more security breaches occurred, personal VPNs became popularized. This became the stepping stone for all future VPNs to come.
