DIARY WRITING/JOURNALING
As a teenager, we might have kept a diary hidden somewhere close to us. But as we grow older, our priorities changes. Its time we bring back the concept of journaling to our life to help gain control of our emotions.
“The simple act of expressing thoughts and feelings on paper about challenging and upsetting events can allow us to move forward by expressing and letting go of the feelings involved.”
It helps giving meaning to our thought processes.
Write about an event for four consecutive days for 15–20 minutes, at least.
- Write as if no one else will ever read it. Its just for you.
- Don’t worry about the spelling or grammar. Just go with the flow.
- Write anything that you want to reflect on. Try to take it out from your system.
- It is common to feel sad after writing. This can last from few minutes to few hours.
- Its a good idea to give yourself some time after writing to reflect upon what emotions you are going through.
- However, if the content is too upsetting for you, avoid writing. Only write what you can handle now.
Whatever type of painful emotion you are experiencing (sadness, fear, isolation, etc.) expressing yourself in writing can help ease your discomfort.
So, what are you waiting for? Take out your pen and paper, and create memories!
