I wanted to write this from long, I tweeted about this few months back as well.

I think advertisement on web makes resources on Internet sustainable. Imagine a world without Google/FB or Google being a paid service.

Though advertisements helped Internet companies, publishers, e-commerce and consumers but advertisement on web and mobile-app are getting crazier. They are good in guessing who you are and what things you would like and so some people hate them, and they just block them!

Here is my way to deal with advertisements on web:

Block 3rd party cookies

Its very likely that you visited some site (example: amazon/flipkart) to buy something and then everywhere you go, you see advertisement for the same thing you looked.

Well, I don’t like personalisation in advertisements, of course ad-networks converts more and hence its the default for most of site. Facebook, Google and many other companies do that.

How to stop re-marketing ads? Just block 3rd party cookies!

Whenever you visit a site, it might also drop ad-networks cookie on the page. This way Ad-network learns what site you visited and hence what advertisement to show. Google has an article on it.

Chrome with 3rd party cookie blocked shows what cookie were blocked, and mostly they are ad-networks

Too many advertisements?

This is the worst thing to do, but if a publisher site shows ads on your face or too many ads, the best way is to disable JS for that particular website.

Reporting of ads. in google ads

Generally, Ad-Networks (like google) give you option to send them feedback about ads shown on a page.

Ad reporting on FB.

Conclusion

In my opinion advertisements are not just serving big companies like Google/Facebook but they are source of sustainability for million websites and free apps which we use everyday. I admit I am not going to pay for everyone of them, but at least I will not block their source of income!
