FRUITS: The best anti depressant out there

The majority of teens nowadays suffer either from depression or anxiety, and they aren’t even aware of it. To cope up with this, they consume anti-depressant pills, drugs and what not.

There could be many reasons for this to be true, but one of the most common contributor to this would be a poor, unwholesome and rotten diet.

I’m not sure whether this has been proved to be true, however I have experienced this. With a junky diet, not only are you physically deteriorating but also mentally.

I recently looked up and went through the chemical bases and the nutrient composition of fruits and found out something interesting.

Most of the substances in fruits are promoters of better mood, let me tell you how.

HEALTHY SUGARS

Fruits contain sugars like fructose (majorly) and glucose (minorly). Sugar in general makes us feel good, I mean who doesn’t love a bite of their favourite sweet? The best part is that they are natural sugars and give you an abundance of energy, so you’ll never feel slumped or procrastinating. You dissipate your cravings and you’re full of energy, it’s a win-win.

MINERALS

Fruits also contain important minerals like Magnesium and Potassium which contribute to nerve function and muscle relaxation, promoting a sense of calm.

ANTIOXIDANTS

These molecules are like bodyguards to your cells, which defend against free radicals, who go on to kill your cells. In conclusion, fruits contain superheroes that protect your cells.

VITAMINS

Fruits are rich in vitamins like C, B6 and folate which are vital for brain function. For example, Vitamin C helps in the production of dopamine, a nuerotransmitter that gives a feeling of pleasure and reward.

GUT HEALTH

The excess amount of fiber in fruits is a great contributor to good gut health, as it is very easy to digest and help maintain a good microbiome in your gut. Moreover, fiber helps you keep full, reducing cravings and cut down your junk food intake

Don’t forget your fruits!
