Every Indian Cricket Team Uniform 1992–2019

Coloured uniform trend in cricket came from 1986 ( World Series) but the regular activeness of same began from 1992.

In 90’s every ODI tournament or series meant a different uniform. Though the best part was the DESIGN PATTERN for each team was common which made it very special for cricket fans.

So let’s START looking for different uniforms which Indian Cricket Team wore from 1992 World cup to 2019 World Cup!

1.) Benson & Hedges World Cup 1992

With a default design pattern of broad strips on shoulders, many cricket fans consider this world cup known for best jerseys ever made for their teams. Indian team uniform had navy blue colour.

Though Indian team couldn’t qualify for semi finals in World Cup 1992 but this uniform is still considered as one of best and demanding jersey on Stores by cricket fans.

2.) India’s tour of South Africa — 1992

Indian team toured South Africa for first time in year end of 1992. India played series of 4 test matches and 7 one-day match series.

Navy blue uniform with strips of sky blue and yellow in pulse beat style was the design pattern here. It was similar for South African team too with only difference being of different colour.

This tour is also known for Mankading moment from Kapil Dev.

3.) Hero Cup — 1993

In time of some exciting one day tournaments, HERO CUP was played in India with 5 teams participated in it. The design pattern of each team uniform were similar and India returning their uniform colour to Sky Blue. Vertical strip was the pattern used and it is also considered one of coolest jersey with nostalgic moments for many cricket fans of those time.

India winning the HERO CUP was one of the top cricket achievement which fans still cherish. Although two notable performance here are still remembered.

  • Sachin Tendulkar bowling magical last over against South Africa in semi-final.
  • Anil Kumble match winning spell of 6/12 against West Indies in final.

4.) Wills World Series — 1994

With same design pattern for all three teams — India, West Indies and New Zealand this jersey marked the yellow front-line theme for team India which remained in continuity for many more series till 1999 World Cup.

5.) Singer World Series — 1994 (Sri Lanka)

It was one of the most anticipated Series between top teams of world cricket. India eventually winning the rain affected final but you can imagine the excitement when teams India, Australia, Sri Lanka & Pakistan were the participants.

Here all teams had similar design pattern again with India continued with blue and yellow theme.

6.) India tour of New Zealand — 1994

India toured New Zealand for one test match and 4 one day match series which ended in 2–2 draw.

India continued with yellow front theme in uniform but returned with dark navy blue for their pants and half jersey portion. Strips at one side of jersey made it one of the stylish jersey of Indian cricket team.

This series is also known for Sachin blistering knock of 82 in 49 deliveries and it was his first innings as Opener.

7.) Bank of New Zealand Centenary Series 1994–95

Uniform design creation is one of best for all teams in this tournament. India continued with navy blue theme and the right shoulder area covered with CHAKRA (Indian Flag reference) and had tricolour covered on jersey.

Though India couldn’t qualify for final but ended their tournament campaign on high note by defeating Australia easily.

8.) Wills World Cup — 1996

Every Indian fans remember it for the semi-final scare their team got against Sri Lanka.

All teams had similar design pattern here and India returned to their skyblue and yellow theme uniform.

Arrows in one direction was designed on front and back side of jersey for every team.

9.) Titan Cup — 1996

One of the best tournaments which cricket fans remember for heroics from Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath winning partnership against Australia.

Same design pattern on uniform was used and it was thin bars. Indian team continued with sky blue and yellow colour schema here.

10.) Standard bank Tri Series 1997

Played in South Africa and uniforms of all three teams South Africa, India, Zimbabwe had same pattern which was of colour sparkles and flag reference.

India had sparkles of navy blue with Chakra .

11.) Independence Cup 1997

It was a tournament organised on occasion of India celebrating 50 years of their Independence.

Teams participated — India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Pakistan

This tournament is known for Saaed Anwar scoring highest individual score by single batsman in an inning. His 194 against India helped Pakistan win match against their arch rivals.

Plain colour of each teams were used in this tournament and logos of all cricket board were used on each team jerseys.

12.) 1997 — Challenge Cup

Indian team toured Pakistan in 1997 for 3 match one day series.

Design pattern for both team were same and on shoulder bar style returned after 1992 World Cup for this tournament.

Although, India lost the series 2–1 but cricket fans remember it for Rajesh Chauhan hitting 6 in crucial moment that lead to seal victory.

13.) AKAI-SINGER CHAMPIONS TROPHY — 1997

This tournament was played in Sharjah and four teams participated in the tournament. India, England, West Indies and Pakistan.

India bowed out of tournament losing all three matches.

England remained unbeaten while winning the tournament after defeating West Indies in final.

Tricolour strips in round pattern were designed for Indian jersey and all other team had this same pattern (check image above).

14.) Silver Jubilee Independence Cup 1997–98

This tournament was held in Dhaka (Bangladesh) on celebration of 25 years of Bangladesh’s independence. India, Bangladesh and Pakistan were teams.

Uniform patters were same for all three teams with slant strips on front portion of jersey. Chakra from tricolour flag returned for Indian team jersey.

India dominated this tournament and won the 3rd final against Pakistan in a nail bitting chase. Sourav Ganguly and Robin Singh crucial partnership with Hrishikesh Kanitkar helding nerves to score boundary with 1 ball remaining.

It was highest running chase by any team beating Sri Lanka’s record against Zimbabwe in 1992 World Cup.

15.) Coca Cola Cup 1998 (Sharjah)

Jersey of Indian team were similar to 1997 Singer Akai Cup but pants were of navy blue colour. It was a mix of cool and dark shade.

16.) Coca Cola Triangular Series

This series was played between Indian, Kenya and Bangladesh. India eventually winning the series but were upset by Kenya in round robin match.

India wore dark jersey and light blue pants with thin strips on jersey which had same pattern for other teams too.

17.) Wills International Cup — 1998

It was the first tournament apart from Worlcup when all test playing nations played in one tournament together.

South Africa winning this tournament. Each team had a different dress pattern for first time.

Sachin Tendulkar rampant form continued against Australia and his century helped India defeat Aus in knockout stage before losing to West Indies in semi-final.

India chose tricolour design blocks with sparkles on front of jersey.

18.) Coca Cola Champions Trophy — Sharjah 1998

India returned to play another tri series in Sharjah against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.

Indian team wore light blue jersey with emblem of BCCI on the front.

India continued with this jersey for their New Zealand tour in 1999

19.) World Cup — 1999 (England)

In world cup 1999 held in England, Indian team continued with their sky blue jersey with broad emblem of BCCI in yellow colour.

20.) LG Cup — 1999

India wore the sky blue jersey with navy blue borders and emblem on front.

India, Kenya and South Africa participated in this tournament held at Nairobi. South Africa won this tournament by comfortably defeating India in final.

21.) Carlton & United Series — 2000

India toured Australia in last months of 1999 for 3 test matches and tri nation Carlton & United Series. Australia and Pakistan being the two other teams.

It was a disappointing tour for India.

ODI jersey was quite stylish and continued with yellow/blue theme and emblem.

22.) India South Africa One Day Series — 2000

India won the series 3–2 and it was first time when Sourav Ganguly captained India and marked the start of great era for Indian Cricket.

BCCI logo emblem design pattern was highlight of Indian jersey in Sky blue uniform.

23.) ICC Knockout Trophy — 2000

BCCI emblem was the pattern again but it was used in form of elephant tusk on front of jersey.

India had a good run before losing final from win situation against New Zealand. Chris Cairns won the man of the match who stopped India to win the final.

24.) India tour of South Africa — 2001

India played tri nation series with South Africa & Kenya on their tour to South Africa. South Africa won the series defeating India in final in a comfortable manner.

Sahara sponsored jersey came into action for first time and yellow vertical strips were used in yellow colour with main design colour being sky blue.

25.) Indian Tricolour Jersey— 2002–2006

Tricolour splash jersey was first viewed here. India continued with this jersey for many years.

26.) 2003 World Cup — South Africa

India continued with the triclolour splash on their jersey but it was well balanced with minimal strips of navy blue colour on the pockets and arms.

India had an excellent run throughout tournament with their only hard losses coming against mighty Australia in league match and final of World Cup.

27.) World Cup 2007 — West Indies

28.) 2009 -2010 Jersey

Tricolour swirls at side of jersey with saffron straps (from tricolour reference) on neck and back portion was used in jersey. It was the dark version of 2007 world cup jersey.

29.) World Cup 2011 — India/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka

The navy blue jersey continued but saffron fonts were used for numbers and name of player on jersey. Tricolour swirls were on side of jersey.

30.) ODI Series Jersey 2013/14

This jersey didn’t had much difference from 2011 except the tricolour marks were moved to shoulder area of jersey.

31.) World Cup 2015 — Australia/New Zealand

Design pattern here was the grills of sky blue and navy blue. Saffron colour was continued for the team name and name of players on jersey.

32.) World Cup 2019 — England

The latest addition in jersey is the away jersey of India. The home jersey remains a simple one with no big change from Nike (official sponsor).

Away jersey gives the glimpse of what was followed back in 2009.

Design pattern is quite similar to Spirderman suit with Saffron colour reference in major on back portion of jersey coming from Indian Flag.
