CS 373 Fall 2019: Abhinav Kasamsetty
Week 10

What did you do this past week?
Fortunately, this past week, I haven’t had much work. There was an assignment due for Neural Networks due, so I worked on that on Thursday and luckily did a lot better on this one than the last one. I also worked on the second draft of my composition for Japanese. As for this class, we learned about SQL and got practice constructing queries on the in class assignments.
What’s in your way?
The next phase of the project for this class is due on Thursday and my group hasn’t started working on it yet, so that’s definitely in our way. In my Japanese class, we’re starting a group skit project next week, so I need to find a group for that and start making the script with them. Also, there’s a Data Mining assignment due in 2 weeks so my partner and I have to meet up to work on that.
What will you do next week?
Next week, my main focus will be working on the project for this class and getting our sorting, filtering, and searching working on the backend side. After that, I’ll likely meet with my group in Japanese to start planning the script for our skit. I also will meet up with my partner in Data Mining to start working on our assignment.
What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)
My only experience with SQL has been through using ORMs at internships, so I haven’t had experience actually writing raw SQL queries in the past, though I knew the basics of tables and foreign keys. It was a bit difficult to figure out all the queries during the in class assignments, but I think it was valuable as we will definitely need to use SQL in the workplace.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick-of-the-week this time is CircleCI, a service that allows you to add Continuous Integration to your repositories. In one of my previous blog posts, I recommended Travis CI for this purpose. However, Travis CI has recently been acquired and there has been a wave of layoffs. Also, Travis CI has been down this past week at various times, so I recommend anyone using Travis CI to switch to CircleCI instead.
