“Real G’s move in silence like Lasagna”

To no surprise, in 2011 the most played song in my iTunes library was 6 foot 7 foot by Lil Wayne Ft (Cory Gunz). The song’s melodic sample of “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” by Harry Belafonte combined with the vocal and lyrical craft of Weezy made the song a hit.

The most memorable moment of the song was Real G’s move in silence like Lasagna. When you pronounce “lasagna,” the G is silent (although it wouldn’t have the “yuh” sound at the end if the G wasn’t there). Real gangsters (Gs) move in silence too, i.e. they keep their hustles on the low.

I recently realized that this is applicable not only to G’s but also to 9–5'ers like myself. Essentially, like in a game of chess you never want to share your next move.

You position yourself to talk-the-talk and not walk-the-walk.

  • If you share your next moves publicly it could put a vast amount of pressure on oneself to achieve that move.
  • You are more committed to pleasing your peers and not achieving your goals
  • You become predictable

My advice- It’s important to share hints of what you’re doing next to your trusted circle. Feedback and positive reinforcement are critical towards achieving your goal. In addition to this it promotes accountability towards delivering on what you are trying to achieve.
