I think net neutrality debate does not matter. It does not matter to future internet users in India.

What matters for Activists?

Activists want equality. They want India to become US. They are impatient. But, they ignore the reality.

What matters for normal Indians?

New census survey says that 75% of Indian households earn less than INR 5000/ month. Or 92% earn less than INR 10,000/ month. These income levels are for basic necessities, not equal.

They want more money and jobs. They want to move to the cities. Common Indians want to watch movies, listen to songs, send pictures or video chat. If something helps, Indians will take it.

Internet Literacy As Poverty:

Internet won’t abolish poverty. But, it opens up the eyes. It presents a new world. Common people can dream. And, that’s a great enabler. That’s magic of technology.

Change Goalposts

Equality is a great concept, but economic growth lifts people out of the poverty. Government has been doling out help for decades. It failed. Elites have the right intention, but they can’t execute it right.
Free Basics, more businesses, less government control, power to people, better courts, better physical infrastructure help accelerate economic growth.

Will Facebook provide what people want?

I think Facebook is already providing what people want. Airtel is providing what people want. Google is providing what people want.
Angst against west will not help. People who benefit from the west rant the most.

Keep Up The Great Work Zuck

I do not want Zuck to stop. There is nothing wrong with profit. Our people can vote with their feet and phones, if Freebasics is fishy. Let them decide.

Give us a great product Facebook. Give us the great future you are working on. We are waiting.

Disclaimer: I support net neutrality, but greater good is more important than the high sounding ideals.
