The Underestimated Color Palette of Xcode

One of the most common things in our day to day work is setting the right colors on our UI. For this we employ numerous approaches like:

  • Make extension on UIColor to get color from hex string
  • Directly assign color in Storyboards/XIB files
  • Use the Mac utility app called Digital Color Meter to extract color from design.

Well, no wonder all these options are good and I surely believe these are correct but when working in a team or even alone, what if we collaborate all the colors together in a one single palette.

Yupp ! The Xcode Color Palette comes in handy. For those who are not aware, the palette looks like this:

Xcode Color Palette

Now see below how we can add our own palette:

Use the color picker icon to pick color and rename as per the designer’s language.

Adding names to the colors as per designer’s choice.

You can add multiple palettes for different projects. This way all the colors in a particular app are …. wait for it ….. Sorted! 😎

You can also talk in colors , I mean, especially by names.
