How to Secure the (Dream) Job in Digital World ?

Once in a while some or the other guy calls me and asks me “Dude, I’m just stuck in this job . How can I get a better one?” or “ Dude, I’m just out of college and want a nice job. I tried multiple websites and still got no fruitful interviews.”

If You are among the two , Read Ahead.

The most important thing when getting the first job or switching the job is the approach. The number of job seekers are huge but jobs are few. So a Market Pull approach can only help you get the dream Job.

Here is a 5 step approach that might help.

Step 1: Build a personal Brand

When you want employers to call you, you need to differentiate yourself from the crowd. Start working on your linked In profile from day 1.

Register yourself on the best networking platform “Linked-In”, Clean your Facebook Profile & start writing a blog about anything in your field.

Additionally, make an excellent CV/Resume.

If you need help (for free), you can always send your raw one to hi.abhishekpatil@gmail.com & I promise I will get back to you.

Step 2: Create profile across Platforms

To get hiring managers call, they must be informed that your are looking for a job change. These platforms can help you do that (Nothing more).

Hint: Don’t go for Any Premium subscription on any of the platforms.

Step 3: Start Reaching out to +1 Level people

Thousands of job seekers reach out to HR’s of companies on a daily basis. Don’t be one among them. Here’s how you can avoid that & still get that interview chance.

Lets say you want to apply for a position of operations manager at Uber (India), find out who manages operations managers in that organisational structure (LinkedIn can help) & ping the person directly.

The message should be crisp and short. Here is a sample,

“I spent six years at Seamless.com, working closely with amazing leaders like Jason Finger (who you know well). I see such amazing potential in your company, and I would love to be a part of it in any way. My primary focus is marketing, with a lot of experience marketing to the same corporations and users you seem to be attracting. I’d love to tell you more about how my skill set could help you all reach and exceed your current growth goals.”- source: themuse.com

Step 4: Leverage your network

You do not realize how much your network can help you get that dream job. Start texting people(on Linked-in) to let them know you are looking for an opportunity. Use Linked Headline feature and set it to something like “Looking for an awesome Job” or “Looking for a challenging opportunity”.

b. Start increasing Number of Face to Face rounds.

c. Follow steps 1 to 4 repeatedly until you get at least 20 Face to Face Interviews.

d. Negotiate your salary well.
