There’s a handful of experiences from my life that I can truly say have been life changing but attending the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (or more commonly known as the GHC) definitely tops the list. I attended the GHC in 2016, as part of a group of women who were selected from my university, and the 3 days that I spent in Houston, Texas remains one of the most memorable of my life. I’ll start with a brief explanation of what the GHC is, some background, what it has to offer etc.

Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC)

The GHC is a women-only conference (though men have been allowed lately, something that continues to be heavily debated) that is held annually by the Anita Borg Institute. It’s held in memory of Grace Brewster Murray Hopper, an American computer scientist, and the United States Navy rear admiral, a renowned figure in computing, who popularized the idea of machine-independent languages and was also one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer.

Job Fair

This conference is a 3-day event that kicks off with keynote speeches by invited speakers. It also includes a major job fair, the likes of which few have seen. This job fair brings in the biggest companies in the world, from tech giants like Facebook, Google, Amazon…
