Spotify, Social Media and starting a Radio Show
I had been meaning to create a playlist for a while and have always loved listening to an eclectic mix of genres. I wanted to showcase my varied taste but still keep it cohesive. When I was asked to play a pop up set for label Love Thy Neighbour on Totally Radio I began to collate some tracks together. Laura Marling, Oumou Sangare, Laurie Anderson, Smerz …. so many amazing female vocalists who I loved one after another jumping from genre to genre PERFECT this was it a playlist to celebrate the female voice in all it’s diverse splendor.
I see this project as an evolving exploration, a collating of influences from all over, reaching out to friends, family and fans to suggest tracks via facebook messenger or twitter has brought up some wonderful surprises, blasts from the past and memories of singing along to Dolly Parton in the car with my dad and new releases such as Hannah Peel’s Mary Casio: Journey To Cassiopeia.
As an independent artist there is a lot of pressure to constantly output on social platforms, I think it’s true that each platform is it’s own community and the key is to make it engaging for you, otherwise it is too easy to loose momentum. I love exploring the female voice and juxtaposing different styles beside each other. I feel excited that off the back of this, I now have a monthly Radio Show on Totally Radio.
Please do suggest tracks and sign up to my mailing list for more updates on future releases and inspiration.
