Be Community Powered.

Recently I was asked who I was drawn to and why. So let us begin by digging into that question for ourselves...

Who are you drawn to and why? What are some of things that create a pull for you, comedy, charisma, acts of service?

We live in a culture that envelopes us in an expectation that we are always on form. That we should rely on our own expertise and personal power to be the premier versions of ourselves at all times — Of course this is unrealistic.

A few years back I went to Nicaragua and saw fireflies for the first time. In this little community of lights I realised something surprising. That we can’t always shine. Each firefly blinked on, then off, then on and so on.

But as a community, the lights were always shining.

The truth is that we don’t lead as individuals, we can’t always shine. Instead we lead together. As a community. And the best bit is that this takes the pressure off us, it allows us to take a breathe and find a little peace. It does however require us to develop a rootedness in one another.

Together we provide the map by which we navigate our way through life. We create the connections, the roads to travel and the street lamps which illuminate the way. And this demonstration of the power of collaboration becomes the blueprint for others to follow — you illuminate their way to a better balanced and productive future.

It’s and approach to life that promotes togetherness rather than self-interest. An outlook on the world that sees success as shared rather than individually owned. A perspective where community bears the weight of life’s challenges and indeed it’s celebrations.

Despite our individual giftedness we are deeply designed to be a team, a community. To help others shine when we can’t.

Let’s finish with a musical number! Whilst this might be a surprising choice, you’re wrong. Everyone loves the ‘Prince of Egypt’ 😉
