How Are Perspex Boxes Created

Perspex boxes are one of the most in-demand display media solutions in the market of Australia. Ever wondered how these boxes are actually made? Read on to find out.

In Sydney, as well as other parts of Australia, Perspex seems to be enjoying a celebrity status among a large number of retailers and corporate organisations. The primary reason behind this fact is that the material can be used for fabricating a wide range of display media items like exhibition cases, stands, signage and so on. Also, sheets manufactured from Perspex are naturally resistant to impact, which renders them shatter-proof.

Have you ever wondered how Perspex is utilised for making a simple yet chic and glossy exhibition box? If yes, then here is a synopsis of the actual method employed for constructing Perspex display boxes.

Step 1:

The first thing that’s done when building Perspex boxes is purchase of the exact supplies needed for the project. The essentials include acrylic glue, acrylic sheets, clamps, hinge kit and a drill. The size of sheets needed is dictated by the box/es which are to be constructed, as well as their dimensions.

Step 2:

If the exhibition box being constructed is going to have a lid on it, the sheets must be drilled for holes at particular points in order to install hinge screws. Extreme caution is exercised during the drilling process, as even a tiny bit of carelessness can cause the sheet to crack. To prevent the risks of damage, usually a 60 degree tipped drill bit lubricated properly with oil is utilised.

Step 3:

When the sheet is being cut, a certain degree of unevenness can form on the edges and sides. The slight waves generated by the cutting saw can keep from creating a smooth-fitting seal. If that happens, the edges of the acrylic pieces are flattened using a belt sander fitted with a fine-grit sandpaper. Once that is done, the pieces are fitted suitably with one another using acrylic glue. After sticking any two pieces together, both are clamped at their ends to prevent any movement while the glue on them is drying.

So basically, these are the fundamental steps involved in the complete procedure of creating a Perspex box out of sheets of the same material. Many people ask their plastic fabricator to embellish the box for promotional or aesthetic reasons by embossing a special quote, company logo, sentimental marking, date, etc. In generally, a pre-prepared stencil is used for the task. First, the stencil is stuck to the side of the Perspex box on which etching needs to be done. Then the letters are engraved using a cordless dremel tool.
