Jiu Jitsu is a fascinating Brazilian martial art that’s highly addicting. The discipline is extremely beneficial both for your physical well-being and mental health. However, like any martial art, the technique is difficult to master and beginners are likely to face several problems.

Your Jiu Jitsu trainer at Gracie Elite Byron Bay can help you overcome the initial hiccups and become a master in this alluring martial art technique.

Know your Attire

Once you enroll at a Gracie Elite Byron Bay Jiu Jitsu centre, you will need to have the right attire. The traditional dress for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is known as the ‘Gi’. It is an adaptation of the attire commonly used in Japanese martial arts. The Gi comprises a loose cotton jacket worn over reinforced pants.

You will also need a belt to tie the cotton jacket around your waist. There are several techniques but it can be quite challenging. One common style is the super lock knot, which is both tidy and lies flat on your waist.

For ladies, long hair can be a problem. Tie your hair in a neat bun or just cut it really short. The strands should not get in your way while you are training hard.

Moreover, since the discipline requires close physical contact, remove all jewelleries, accessories and makeup. Wear regularly washed; hygienic clothes for mutual safety.

Learn to be a Good Partner.

Being a good teammate is an essential part of your Jiu Jitsu training class. Your movements should complement that of your partner’s so that both of you can extract maximum benefit. Do not let your ego get in the way and spoil your sessions. Learn to be humble and submit to your opponent in the beginning.

Learn to Survive

Learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be daunting and highly exhaustive. In order to survive the initial months at your Gracie Elite Byron Bay class, it is advisable to have some initial strength training. This gives you the confidence to face your opponent even as a beginner.

Remain committed and Inspired

The initial months can be frustrating and you will often think of quitting. But do remember that there is no gain without pain! Stay committed to your goal, inspire yourself continuously and develop a go-getter attitude. It’s all in your mind and you can definitely become an expert if you remain true to yourself.
