Welcome to the EV club. I was sold on EV’s with the first test drive of a Volt in 2011. I am currently averaging over 133 MPG, getting 40 miles on an overnight charge, and loving every minute of it. I’ve done one oil change in 43k miles and a few tire rotations. That’s it for maintenance. The car is ultra-reliable and has 5 star safety. It moves quickly down the road with nearly silent propulsion. I have no range anxienty since it has a gas motor to charge the battery as I drive, so it can go from here to Patagonia and back. Chevy is also bringing a pure EV, the Bolt, to the market in the fall of this year, beating the 3 out of the gates by a year, and will have the additional utility of a hatchback. Unlike the Volt, the Tesla Model S has only average reliability, so I would wait a year afer its introduction to jump on board. Besides, thousands of S owners that paid up front for their S almost lost their deposits when Tesla neared bankruptcy and took a federal loan to stave off the creditors. Elon has a lot of irons in the fire right now, and its his first attempt at a mass market vehicle. I wish him well, but for now it’s the Volt and Bolt that are leading the pack.
