What are the positive sides of electric braking ?

Electric brakes have been the special safety gear and they are the best for all modern-day towing vehicles so far- whether it is a caravan or a trailer.

(1) Avoids skidding, slipping away and spinning out of the wheels

(2) Reduces average stopping distances to a safer minimum distance

(3) The electric ‘stopper’ sensing provides agile and instantaneous braking power

(4) The heat formed by electric braking has no bad effect on the components

(5) Electric braking has been speedier than mechanical friction braking

(6) The capacity of the system can be augmented for higher speed and heavy load carriage by installing electric braking

(7) Electric brakes installation reduces the readjustment problem and maintenance like its non-electrical counterpart

(8) Metal dust can’t be produced in the bearings and the surface as in mechanical brakes

(9) Electric braking gives the car ride experience a smoother, jerk-less feel

Why should Electric brakes installation be given importance ?

Without a proper expert effort of installation with a brake controller, your trailer’s electric brakes will not remain active. At this, you will not be getting those above-mentioned benefits of the Electric brake installation.

Also, you may breach the general road rules for your caravan and trailer. And most importantly, you will not likely be towing securely.

To benefit from the positive aspects of the Electric brakes installation in this regard, you must follow the formulas given below as per their sequence.

Formulas for installing electric brakes on the trailer :

(i) Remove the existing hub

(ii) Lift the trailer with support

(iii) take away the wheel

(iv) See at the centre of the hub

(v) The dust cover cap is the metal cap

(vi) lightly tap a screwdriver behind the lip

(vii) Pry the grease dust cap off

(viii) See a big nut under that cap

(ix) make straight the cotter pin

(x) Remove the cotter pin

(xi) Take a small screwdriver

(xii) Pry the small metal clip off the nut

It will snap over the nut, and pop right off. Also, the nut should be loosened and the sequence for Electric brakes installation Joondalup, Perth ought to be followed.

(1) Remove the nut after that

(2) A washer will be behind the nut and the outer bearing

(3) Catch them or they will fall on the floor

(4) Lightly pull the entire hub off the axle

(5) Install the lock washers beneath the nuts and tighten

Be alert of the two green brake wires to be tucked inside the back plate. On braking magnets, there are no positives or negatives. Also if the nut is tightened much, it would fire the wheel bearings! Insert the cotter pin to ensure the nut will not spin-off.

But it must be finger-tightened only ! The next required sequence should be as follows ;

(1) Find the correct backing plate which is marked left or right

(2) The magnet always goes on the bottom and the “arm” to the front

(3) Make sure the outer bearing is greased well

(4) Sequentially put in the hub, then the washer, and then the nut

(5) Thread the nut down, and turn the hub as you tighten it

(6) While turning, tighten to about 40 ft-poundal (enough tight to place the bearing and hub).

(7) After the nut is tight, stop turning the drum

(8) Gently loosen the nut until it is finger-tight

(9) If your axle has the metal “clip” over the nut

(10) Just line up the flat side of the hole with the flat side of the clip, and snap it on

The safe wiring rules :

Wiring is straightforward to accomplish. To ensure complete success for the Electric brakes installation in Joondalup, Perth, just concentrate and maintain the below rules properly.

(i) Route the wires right so they will not get damaged

(ii) Connect the required combination

(iii) Use two conductor double jacketed wires for the brakes

(iv) Isolate and insulate the open face of the wire

You will see as the brakes are not grounded, the wires coming out of the back of the brakes do not have polarity. It does not matter which wire you connect to which wire, only that they are not connected! Follow the below sequence as well.

(i) Use the two conductor wires to each brake, and hook them to the two wires on the brake

(ii) Start at the front, and run the wire from the front truck plug

(iii) Go back to one brake and connect the wire

(iv) Continue across the trailer to the other brake, and connect

(v) Run a wire along the axle tube, and secure it with zip straps

How to set up the front plug ?

To plug the brake controller right into the vehicle, focus well.

(i) One wire to the “BLUE” terminal on the back of the plug

(ii) The black wire in the two conductor wires is the brake feed wire

(iii) Join the new two-conductor wire

(iv) Join the other wire (white wire generally) to the “WHITE” plug. This makes the trailer Ground

(v) If one has a four-way plug, one must cut off the old plug if it is the four-flat one. Connect the wires as follows:

(vi) The WHITE wire will attach to the “WHITE” terminal (with the brake wiring) for ground

(vii) Join the Yellow wire (left stop light) to the “RED” terminal

(viii) Join the Brown wire (the marker lamps) to the “GREEN” terminal onto the plug

(ix) Join the Green wire (the right stop light) to the “BROWN” terminal

The conclusion
