Reading comprehension is a requirement for practically all graduate tests. This skill will also improve your ability to read swiftly and comprehend information. To summarise, if you want to get intelligent, you must read. However, reading alone will not suffice; you must also comprehend!

Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of 5 reading comprehension suggestions for those who are new to reading habits.

Divide the passage into smaller sections

If you’re reading along or difficult text, it’s a good idea to divide it into chunks. It will enable you to consume the information in smaller portions. Understanding each part will prompt your logical thinking to ask questions that will be answered in the following sections.

Summarize what you read
After you’ve finished reading each part or sentence, ask yourself what the author meant by everything. Then, in your thoughts, summarise the section. After moving on to the next section, examine the summaries of the previous sections to determine if there is a pattern.

Find the main Idea

This practice will be extremely beneficial for your language tests for the university admission process. Finding the primary point of what you read is critical. The writer discusses several topics or ideas in each section, yet they all lead back to one bigger-picture theme. Once you’ve done reading the entire passage, try to find that notion.

Work on your vocabulary

If you have a large vocabulary, it will help you understand and read faster. However, vocabulary grows with time and requires a lot of reading. So, don’t worry, start reading and commit to learning at least 5 new words every day.

Develop critical thinking

When you read anything, don’t just swallow what is written; attempt to come up with your own explanation. Try to discover an alternate explanation to the writer’s main idea. This activity will help you improve your critical thinking skills, which will ultimately improve your reading comprehension.
