Welcome to UCLA CS!

Congratulations on joining the Computer Science Department at UCLA. UCLA is an exciting place to study computer science, and we hope you enjoy your time here. In the upcoming year, you’re going to meet many smart people who will help you in your academic and professional careers, and we encourage you to stay active and utilize the resources offered by the department.

One of the best ways to find your interest group is to participate in events hosted by student clubs. There are four major student run organizations that focus on computer science on campus: ACM, ACM-W, UPE, and LUG. These clubs organize workshops, meetups, and socials throughout the school year. Check them all out and find the best one that fits you.

ACM — The Umbrella Organization for Computing

Five ACM Committees

ACM-W — Women in Computing(ACM-W is also a registered club on its own)

Hack — Code, Sleep, Repeat

AI — Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

ICPC — Competitive Programming and Coding Interviews

VR/CG — Virtual Reality and Computer Graphics

UPE — The Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines

If none of these clubs offer what you’re looking for, come talk to us. We can team up and co-host new events. If you still wish to create a new committee or club, we can connect you to the right people.

One more thing — Enormous Activities Fair and Engineering Welcome Day are happening on Tuesday and Wednesday. Try to make it to these major events and see what these student clubs can offer you.

Enormous Activities Fair
