Comm 110 Post #1
Hi! My name is Amy Nardozzi and I am a junior at Grove City College. I am pursuing a double major in Communication and Biblical and Religious Studies. Initially, I added my Comm major to be more marketable upon graduation, since BARS is a pretty specific major. After taking a few comm classes though, I realized that I actually enjoy the classes quite a bit! I really like the part of comm that deals with human interaction, and that we get to be a part of that. Also, the social science aspect of the discipline is fascinating to me, whether comparing individual people or cultures. Upon this reflection, I would love to pursue a job in a Christian organization doing something in the communication realm.
The media is a broad term reaching from the news to Facebook to online blogs. It is heavily made accessible in this day and age by the internet and television, although printed newspaper and articles are still relevant. The media is a way for everyone to be heard, from the highest paid journalist in the to a stay-at-home mom looking to share what she has learned. The role of media in today’s society is to relay information, whether factual events, self-help, or personal opinion. Media contributes to society in 2018 in countless ways. For many people, it is a way they get their daily news, even if it isn’t from a ‘real’ news source. Facebook and Twitter have replaced ‘real’ news outlets in some peoples’ lives as their main way to receive news of world and local events. It is also a way for people to publically voice their opinions, from small things like favorite ice cream to more important things like immigration policy. On a lighter note, media is also used to share uplifting stories or peoples’ personal endeavors, like art they have been making.
