There are countless staff picnic ideas for just about every niche. Adults, kids, adrenaline lovers to food lovers; but what about ideas that are all-inclusive? Staff picnics are an amazing way for staff members to bond and come together as a team. Why, then, should anyone be left out of the occasion? Here at A Company Picnic, we’ve planned countless memorable employee picnics over the past 35 years and we understand how important inclusivity is. We’d like to present a few of our best staff picnic ideas for inclusivity, so you can rest assured nobody will be left out of your picnic fun. Let’s get into it!

Staff Picnic Ideas for Diversity

A diversity-rich theme is an amazing way to celebrate your team and their roots, all while making them feel seen. Here at our company, we’ve coordinated no shortage of culturally-rich themes, such as Día de Muertos and International. The International theme is exceptional for celebrating a large, diverse group of employees, but there’s really no shortage of themes such as this to choose from out there. Think about what you’re looking to get out of your staff picnic (team building games, promoting conversations and bonding between staff, etc.), and you’ll have an easier time deciding on a theme that celebrates their diversity as well as compliments your goals. An Olympics-themed picnic would be exceptional for a diverse group who’s looking to have plenty of team building field games, for example.

If you’re looking to pay homage to your roots or your team tends towards a certain background, you can use that as inspiration for your staff picnic theme. Whether it’s a picnic celebrating a Latino heritage like our example above, or a luau for your Pacific Islander team, there’s no shortage of amazing ideas out there. Begin by noting celebrations in your heritage and build menus and entertainment off of it, and it’s smooth sailing from there!

We’ve coordinated loads of culturally-rich themes over the years, and we’d like to give you some examples of our popular theme ideas to get you started:

• Havana Days (Cuban Theme)

• Luau

• Fiesta

• Día de Muertos

  • International

All-Ages Company Picnic Ideas:

If you’re looking to include everyone in your next staff barbeque, we’d recommend opening it to all ages. Members of your team who have children may need to bring them along, after all, and opening the picnic to all ages may help boost attendance in those who would otherwise need to stay at home with their kids. We’ve coordinated a lot of company picnics with kids on the guest list over the years. We’d like to recommend a few things to keep in mind when you’re planning on opening your picnic up to all ages.

When planning an all ages staff picnic, be sure to include entertainment that’s easy for all ages to enjoy! Whether it’s kid-centric field games, bounce houses, arts and crafts stations, or facepainting, be sure there’s activities the little ones can partake in as well as the adults. You can always base your entertainment around a theme, as we often do at A Company Picnic. Whether that’s a safari-themed picnic with a petting zoo, or pony rides at a wild west picnic, there’s plenty to choose from.

If you’re looking for themed entertainment, here’s a few of our most popular ideas:

• Hayrides at a Fall Harvest Themed Picnic

• Sled Races at a Winter Themed Picnic

• Kids’ Team Field Games at a Field Day Picnic

• Slip n’ Slides at a Splash Zone Themed Picnic

  • Record Decorating Crafts at a Rockabilly Themed Picnic

Spreading Opportunity and Supporting Minority-Owned Businesses

We believe intracommunity support is crucial to us all. Our company itself is run by women, and, when we plan company outings, we tend to do our best to support other minority-owned and small businesses. We’d recommend considering partnering with a local minority-run or small business for your staff picnic. Whether it’s the caterers or the entertainers, we ourselves strive to spread opportunity to others each time we coordinate a company picnic. It’s important to make a difference where you can, after all!

Picnic Ideas that Promote Accessibility

When planning your company picnic, it’s important to make sure everyone is able to enjoy it. Think about your team and their loved one’s needs, and be sure to do your best to fulfill them. Whether it’s accessible parking, ramps, and low-topped game tables for wheelchair users, or noise-cancelling headphones for attendees with sensory sensitivities, it’s important to provide aid to those who need it. Consider bringing in a bilingual MC/DJ, as well as an ASL interpreter, if your team needs it. For staff with service animals, you may wish to consider finding an animal-friendly park or opening the event to members with pets and service animals. We’ve found animals can be a great ice breaker, and something that promotes social bonding! Also, be sure to ask your team about any dietary needs or restrictions when planning your menu. With a little of these, we know your whole team will be able to have a blast!
